Behind the Securitas Uniform: A Look Into the Life of Greg Williams
Greg Williams is easily recognized by his huge grey afro. He sits behind the security desk at Emerson College with two plastic bags filled with his necessary items for his 16 hour shift: his journal, a bag of potato chips, a c.d. player, a Coca-Cola bottle, and the Quaker paper “Friend’s Journal.”
Students standing in line to swipe their cards stop to chat with Williams, one of the head security supervisors of the Little Building. Some even (go so far as to) offer him pudding and coffee. Williams, who has been at Emerson for five years, pulls a harmonica from his pocket and begins to play the chorus of “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” as the passing students and the security guard next to him flash smiles of recognition. When Greg hears about the Facebook group in his honor, “All I Want in Life is Peaches and Greg,” where students recount their favorite stories about him, he flashes a slight grin. “Really?” he asks.
