RIP Shane Cross

Shane Cross

A couple weeks ago, the skateboard world was hit with the news that one of the industry’s most loveable figures, Ali Boulala, and one of it’s most promising up-in-comer’s were involved in a deadly motorcycle accident. Twenty-year-old Shane Cross passed away shortly after the crash while Boulala was rushed to the hospital. Boulala was then placed into a medical induced coma and treated for the two fractures in his skull. According to his board sponsor, Flip:

Since Monday [March, 12th] the hospital have slowly but surely bringing him out of the medically induced coma. While this process has been going on a lot of tests have taken place. The news on these tests is that Ali’s neck is not broken and the brain scans have been positive. We will give you further updates when we have them.

Flip Skateboards

Ali Boulala has been a favorite among core skateboards for years due to his drunken, reckless style on and off his board. Any Boulala footage is worth a watch, however he is most known for his part in Flip’s legendary video Sorry. Other parts included Osiris” Subject to Change and Flip’s Really Sorry.

Sadly, Shane Cross never had the chance to put out a full part. He just started to get pictures into the magazines, but passed away before the final installment of Flip’s Sorry trilogy. His career just started to take off after he had the chance to show off his skills in Thrasher’s King of the Road challenge. I know he has a lot of footage saved up, which I’m sure will be released within the next several months. Although he never had the chance to release an official part, several memorial videos have emerged on the internet. Cross was most known for nose grinding the gigantic El Toro twenty stair rail. Shane had so much talent, over the next few years he have could easily become a legend like Boulala. It is sad to see a kid with so much talent never get the chance to reach his full potential.

A condolence book has been set up on the Flip site for those who would like to share their feelings for Shane’s family and friends. My thoughts go to both these skaters’ families and firends. However, I think Ali is gonna pull through, if anyone can survive this it’s him.
